Journalists Should Embrace Social Media

Last Friday, I attended a workshop at the U.S. Embassy in Kingston, which focused on the essentials of journalism and the role of social media in the profession. First of all, kudos to the embassy for not only recognising the importance of social media, but also taking the initiative to host the workshop. The truth is, it isn’t the future, it’s right now! When I left journalism school a few years ago, it wasn’t such a huge deal. Now, social networking sites are forcing mainstream media to stop and pay attention. That’s power right there.
