CARIMAC receives research funding from local agencies
CARIMAC has recently been awarded two grants, valuing J$6 million, to conduct research on professional capacity building in the media industry of Jamaica and the output of Jamaica’s electronic media sector content. The grants are awarded by UNESCO-Kingston and the Broadcasting Commission of Jamaica (BCJ) and will be used within the first half of this academic year.
“We are very proud to be in partnership with UNESCO and BCJ to pursue research efforts in areas that have the potential to change how the media industry and providers of media training operate in Jamaica,” said Canute James, director of CARIMAC. “The grants are especially timely for CARIMAC because we are strategically moving to strengthen the research capacity of our faculty and students.”
The Institute’s renewed research thrust has seen it bringing together outstanding faculty members and expert technical staff to form interdisciplinary research teams, novel resources and strong project management expertise through its business development unit.
For these two studies the principal investigator is Dr. Livingston White and key co-investigators are David Bain, Corinne Barnes, Prof. Ian Boxill, Olivia Bravo, Dr. Loraine Cook, Fae Ellington, Dr. Anthea Henderson, Dr. Paul Martin and Yvette Rowe.
Research assistants are MA in Communication for Social and Behaviour Change students Penny Bowen, Steffon Campbell and Gina-Marie Guy.
