Activities under the Communication for Sustainable Development Initiative (CSDI) Caribbean programme are now in full swing and will become even more intensive over the next few months. Maria Protz, CSDI Caribbean coordinator, said so far requests for technical assistance have come from the Panos-Caribbean office as well as from the Jamaican Ministry of Agriculture & Fisheries. Further activities are expected to begin in May 2011 for St. Lucia and Dominica.
CSDI Caribbean is also working with Jamaica’s Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA) to design and deliver a comprehensive training strategy for extension officers. Parts of this training took place this summer at CARIMAC. Protz facilitated two workshops in scripting as well as fundamental camera and editing techniques for ten extension officers from RADA. Further training will include workshops in participatory audience research and data collection, communication strategy design and focus group interviewing skills.
CSDI Caribbean is the collaborative effort of CARIMAC, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Italian Ministry of the Environment and Territory.
