Prendergast goes to Canada
This week CARIMAC Coordinator at WJC and lecturer Patrick Prendergast attends a consultative planning workshop on the Use of Media for Learning about Community Health and Development Issues in Vancouver, Canada.
He will brief partners from the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) and UNESCO about his work in alternative media at CARIMAC.
In recent years Prendergast has been working with JET Fm, a small community radio system located in the hills of St. Mary, Jamaica and owned by the Jeffrey Town Farmers Association. Since July 2009, the focus of the training at JET Fm has been on development of content and programming around environmental and health issues and strengthening their capacity to create, edit and produce their own features.
Prendergast and adjunct lecturer Rosamund Brown of Roots Fm 96, both graduates of CARIMAC, have been leading the voluntary community media training and education initiatives in Jamaica and the region. The workshop runs from September 29 - October 2, 2009.
